The problem
You own the IT budget. You can't yet defend it.
The CFO asks the question. You need an answer that holds up when the board pushes back.
- Finance gives you the IT budget as one line. No Run / Grow / Transform split, no per-employee benchmark, nothing to point at in a budget review.
- Half the contracts pre-date you. The other half are about to renew, and the supplier is already steering the terms.
- AI and SaaS spend is on credit cards across the business. You don't yet know whose card, or what is duplicated three times over.
- The board wants three concrete decisions for the next pack. You can't produce them without the work this toolkit does.
- You have one board cycle before "still getting up to speed" stops being a reason not to have answers.
What you get
Three artefacts that turn IT spend into a P&L.
1
Excel workbook
10 tabs, native formulas, no macros. One blank for your data, one pre-populated as a worked example. Imports cleanly into Google Sheets.
2
17-page Start Here guide
The reasoning. Run / Grow / Transform explained, plain-English glossary, 10 questions to ask your IT team, common traps, and a 90-day plan.
3
3-slide board deck
PowerPoint template (blank + worked example). Where the money goes, where the waste is, three decisions to confirm. Goes in your next pack.
The output
One A4 page. Six numbers. A board narrative. Three decisions.
This is what the toolkit produces, populated automatically from your inputs.

Who this is for
Buy this if you are…
- A Head of IT, IT Director, CIO or CTO who owns the IT budget and answers to a CFO or board
- New in the seat, taking over an inherited budget you did not set
- An MSP or consultancy lead preparing a Run / Grow / Transform conversation for a client board
- Renewing a major IT contract in the next six months and want the challenge questions ready
- An FD or CFO who carries IT in your remit and wants a structure to run it through
Don't buy this if…
- Your IT spend is under £200k a year (the structure is overkill for the value it returns)
- Your turnover is under £5m or over £500m (the sector benchmarks won't fit)
- You want a generic IT cost spreadsheet. This is opinionated and built to land in a board pack

FAQ
Common questions
I'm an FD or CFO carrying IT, not a Head of IT. Will it work?
Yes. The Excel workbook and Start Here guide are self-contained, and finance teams typically already have the cost data the toolkit needs. The output is built to land in a board pack, which is where you would be putting it anyway. The voice throughout is operator-to-operator, but the structure is exactly what an FD needs to run IT spend through.
What if I do not use Microsoft Excel?
The workbook works in Excel 2019, Excel 365, and Google Sheets. All formulas (SUMIF, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, MINIFS) are supported in Sheets: the file imports cleanly via File → Make a copy.
Will this work for my sector?
The toolkit is built for UK organisations turning over £10m to £100m. Sector benchmarks are included for Banking / Financial Services, Manufacturing / Distribution, Professional Services, and Retail. If you are in a different sector, the structure still applies; you'll want to validate the percentages against your own management accounts before quoting them externally.
What is the licence?
Single-business licence: covers everyone in your organisation. Not for redistribution, resale, or sharing externally. Each separate organisation needs its own licence. If you advise multiple client businesses and need a wider licence, email hello@boardreadyit.com.
What is your refund policy?
30 days. If the toolkit is not what you expected, email hello@boardreadyit.com within 30 days of purchase and a full refund will be provided. Full policy at boardreadyit.com/refunds.
Will it stay up to date?
Annual refresh: the benchmark figures are updated once a year, typically in Q1. Free updates within v1.x. Buyers are notified by email.
Who handles tax and VAT?
Paddle is the Merchant of Record. They are the seller on the receipt: they charge local tax (UK VAT, EU VAT, US sales tax) where applicable and remit it themselves. UK and EU VAT-registered buyers receive a proper VAT invoice from Paddle and can reclaim the VAT in the normal way.
I want advisory help, not just a toolkit.
Board Ready IT sells self-serve toolkits. If you want a fractional CTO working alongside your board, that is Mike Fraser's separate advisory practice: see mikefraser.me.
Ready to put IT spend on one page you can defend?
